Toshiba FlashAir SDHC memory card supports wireless LAN

The Toshiba FlashAir SDHC memory card is probably the first of its kind to offer wireless LAN capabilities along with basic functions. The memory card allows uploading and downloading data directly from the server besides transferring from systems and devices.
The SDHC card with an added advantage is said to be specifically helpful to digital camera users. The WLAN functionality facilitates sharing pictures and videos with friends through various social networking websites along with providing access to online storage services.
The 2.1mm thin 8GB memory card tips the scale at 2 grams. It transfers data to SDHC supporting mobile devices whereas its WLAN can be used to upload or download data from computers and smartphones. Moreover, the card does not require a cable connection due to its wireless capabilities.
Additionally, the storage solution claims to receive and transmit data while keeping the power consumption low as compared to other cards. Fully compliant with SD memory card standard, it supports the IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN. The WLAN security encryptions are inclusive WEP, TKIP, AES (WPA, WPA2).
The Toshiba FlashAir card of speed class 6 requires a power supply voltage between 2.7V and 3.6V. Its applicable formats include JPEG, RAW, MPEG and more. Also, it works in extreme temperatures ranging from -25°C to 85°C as well as up to 95 percent relative humidity at 25°C.
The certification for wireless communication will be acquired in Japan, Europe and North America by Toshiba. The company plans to come up with storage solutions to enhance its SD card line up even further.
The Toshiba FlashAir SDHC memory card is being exhibited at the IFA. Its samples will start shipping in November and the card will hit shelves by February next year.
