In spite of their relatively higher price points as compared to HDDs, SSDs are seeing wider adoption these days. Active Media Products recently released the Aviator-2 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external SSDs in capacities of 64GB and 128GB. The Aviator-2 is also offered as an external case-only for accommodating standard 2.5” standard SATA HDDs.

“These products effectively render external USB 2.0 hard drives obsolete since for a few dollars more you can plug a 2.5-inch hard drive into the Aviator-2 case and get up to 200% faster performance. Or the Aviator-2 bundled with our Predator SSD inside will blow away any hard drive with speeds above 150MB/s. Aviator-2 SSDs are available now through Amazon. Active Media Products also offers Atomix USB 3.0 PCIe and Express Card adapters to easily upgrade any desktop or laptop to USB 3.0,” commented Jerry Thomson, VP of sales at Active Media Products.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 offer data transfer rates of up to 4.8GB/s which is touted to be almost ten times speedier than USB 2.0. It is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 as well as USB 1.1 ports. The Aviator-2 measures 3” x 5” and can accommodate regular 2.5” SATA HDDs. It may also be purchased with the 64GB and 128GB Predator X7 SSD installed in it already. The Aviator-2 with Predator X7 SSD is cited to deliver data transfer speeds of up to 200MB/s and comes with a felt carrying pouch and USB 3.0 cable. Supplemental electricity may be required with some HDDs, while the case with SSD installed needs no extra power to function.

Active Media Products’ Aviator-2 external enclosure is priced at $34.95 (approx. Rs.1,611), while the 64GB and 128GB Aviator-2 SSDs cost $259.95 (approx. Rs.11,983) and $449.95 (approx. Rs.20,742), respectively.
