Mac users who have loads of data, music or videos to store now have an alternative with this peripheral. WD recently unboxed its My Book Studio LX, an external hard drive that offers a high-speed FireWire 800 interface to complement any iMac, G5 or MacBook Pro. The drive features a sleek book-like look, cooling aluminum case and customizable digital e-label which is always-on.

Supporting USB2.0, the hard drive provides users the speed needed to carry on difficult tasks like photo and video editing, and graphic design. The customizable e-label allows users to personalize and easily archive their multimedia collection in addition to display critical information like contents and remaining capacity without having to boot their computer and plugging in the drive.

“When choosing the right hard drive, creative professionals look for high-quality materials, maximum speed and visual appeal to complement their creative toolkit. The My Book Studio LX drives offer high-speed FireWire 800 performance and a design that will look right at home next to their G5 or MacBook Pro computer. With the customizable e-label, My Book Studio LX drives help videographers, photographers and graphic designers create, organize and locate their clients’ valuable content, no matter how many drives are in their studio,” shared Dale Pistilli, vice president of marketing for WD’s branded products group.

The My Book Studio LX hard drive comes equipped with WD SmartWare software for continuous automatic backup of files and flawless syncing with the Apple Time Machine software. The SmartWare software is an optical application which proffers control of the e-label display, password and other settings as well as gives users a view of the backup when it happens.

Available in different capacities of 1TB and 2TB, the hard drives’ 256-bit hardware-based encryption offers a higher level of data security along with password protection. The drive features WD GreenPower Technology which lowers power consumption by 30 percent, HFS+ Journaled formatting, and is compatible with Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.

WD My Book Studio LX drives are now available in capacities of 1TB and 2TB. The pricing ranges from $199.99 (approx Rs. 9,390) to $269.99 (approx Rs. 12,670) depending on the model.
