Iomega announces the availability of the upgraded StorCenter ix2 Network Drive, boasting the incorporation of remote access and peer-to-peer file sharing.

Ideal for the home and small business users, the revamped ix2 network storage drive that comes in 1 TB and 2 TB centralized storage capacities retains an easy-to-use interface and highlights attributes such as media serving, Bluetooth, video surveillance capabilities and torrent download.

With the remote access feature, users can easily get connected to their images, videos and other media files from virtually anywhere in the world. All that is expected from users is to enter a personalized web address into any browser and they are all set to securely download and upload the required files. If needed, users can even change the settings on the ix2, in terms of adding users and folders from any web-enabled device.

The included torrent download technology enhances the peer-to-peer file sharing system by easing download management directly to the StorCenter ix2 for faster downloading speed of large media files.

Other features include folder quotas to balance the space consumption, jumbo frame support to improve data flow for larger files when network traffic increases and Apple File Protocol (AFP) to simplify file-sharing for Mac users. Other than that, it also packs in an onboard security and a digital video surveillance capability with support for Axis video surveillance camera for real-time viewing and recording of actions inside/outside the office.

In addition to Bluetooth compatibility, the StorCenter ix2 comes with an inherent support for Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) certified devices to access multimedia files. It also offers a Gigabit Ethernet connection, up to two USB devices and two high-performance SATA-II drives.

Apart from that, the ix2 unit also bundles encryption technology from RSA, an included EMC Retrospect Express backup product for data backup and protection and MozyHome online backup to offer 2 GB of free online storage. It carries EMC LifeLine technology as well to handle all of the appliance’s potent network-based storage functionality, data protection, file management and media-serving capabilities.

The StorCenter ix2 Network Storage appliance is compatible with Windows, Mac OS, and Linux PCs.

The Iomega StorCenter ix2 Network Storage appliance is immediately available across the globe for $299.95 (1 TB) and $479.95 (2 TB).
