Seagate launches Barracuda LP Desktop Hard Drive

Seagate Barracuda LP Desktop Hard DriveSeagate presents a new addition to its hard drive family with the Barracuda Low Power drive. This device provides a large storage capacity while delivering the best power efficiency and performance.

According to Seagate, this hard drive consumes 50% less electricity than any other standard hard drive. It also uses 25% less power than other environmentally-friendly hard drives.

Joan Motsinger, Seagate vice president of Personal Systems Marketing and Strategy commented, “Growing demand for power-efficient computing systems is not just a data center phenomenon as more builders of external storage devices, desktop PCs and home networking systems work to provide customers with products that combine power-efficiency with rock-solid performance. Seagate is pleased to deliver a new low-power product line in our Barracuda family that enables system builders and end users alike to attain a higher level of environmental friendliness while cutting costs.”

The Barracuda LP hard drive is a 3.5 inch 5900 RPM drive and is available in capacities of 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB. The hard drive assists makers of low-power PCs, multiple-drive home networking SOHO systems and external PC storage by lowering their product cost. This is possible as the makers can use lighter- power supplies, duty fans and other system components.

The Barracuda is sure to swim its way into users’ hearts and PCs as it delivers energy efficiency, sustainability and incorporates eco-friendly qualities. Seagate’s latest hard drive helps the customers reduce their overall power costs and is quieter than other hard drives. The device even operates at lower temperatures and hence, expands the life of the products components.

The price and availability of the Barracuda LP Desktop Hard Drive is not known.
