Qnap 4-drive rack mounted NAS servers unleashed

Continuing the trend of manufacturing high performance servers Qnap Systems have come up with a pair of NAS servers for the corporate and entry-level enterprise market. The latest servers known as the TS-439U-RP and the TS-439U-SP are 4-drive 1U rack mounted NAS servers featuring hot-swappable drives that offer up to 8TB total capacity using 2TB drives.
They incorporate HDD tray for 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch HDD dual support, providing more choices to users for organizing the drives. Equipped with Intel ATOM 1.6GHz CPU and 1GB DDRII memory, the servers offer 87.3MB/sec transfer rate for an FTP read and are RAID 5 enabled. They are also configured for RAID 0/1/5/6/5+ spare, JBOD with online RAID capacity expansion and RAID level migration. The NAS servers offer iSCSI Target service with Thin Provisioning and dual Gigabit LAN ports with port trunking capabilities.
“Qnap means business with these exciting new models. With the most comprehensive lineup of any NAS server manufacturer, the TS-439U family reinforces our commitment to our corporate, entry-level enterprise and data center customers. While our competition tries to sell business customers a consumer-level NAS server, Qnap delivers true business-class NAS servers with best in class performance and features, and rock steady reliability,” stated Meiji Chang, CEO of Qnap Systems, Inc.
The TS-439U-RP and TS-439U-SP are different in the sense that the RP version features a redundant power supply that automatically thrusts if the other fails. However, the TS-439U-SP comes with single power supply. The SP model can also be upgraded with an optional redundant power supply. Both these servers are compatible with Windows, Macintosh, Linux and UNIX networks. They package AES 256-bit volume-based encryption, policy-based IP blocking, secure FTP, encrypted remote replication for backup, email or SMS alerts in the event of NAS server drives’ failure or possibility of failure and more.
The NAS servers incorporate Qnap’s latest V3 from the NAS management software, and are embedded as firmware. Thus, it adds innovative features like virtual disk drives support (up to 8 virtual disks via iSCSI expansion over the network). They also feature exclusive QNAP RAID Recovery which is capable of recovering an inactive RAID 1, 5, or 6 due to accidental removal of drives. Even Network Discovery Services are improved with the latest Bonjour support providing zero-configuration networking for HTTP, SAMBA, FTP, AFP, and SSH based networks and full UPnP support.
The V3 firmware provides EXT4 support for very large volumes and file sizes, SNMP support, and bitmap support for quicker reconstruction of RAID volume following a crash or adding/removing a drive. The Version 3 is inclusive of the most modern and user-friendly AJAX-based web interface that is compatible with most of the web browsers. Qnap Turbo NAS series NAS servers are available in 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8-bay desktop and rack mount configurations to suit the needs of every kind of consumers from a small-medium business to enterprise networks.
The TS-439U-RP and TS-439U-SP NAS servers will be made available this month. The shipping package is inclusive of a pair of rack slide rail kit.
