Sony Memory Stick XC details emerge

Sony’s Memory Stick XC was first glimpsed at the CES. Finally, Sony has decided to reveal the specifications of these XC cards. The XC category includes four cards dubbed Memory Stick XC Duo, Memory Stick XC-HG Duo, Memory Stick XC Micro and Memory Stick XC-HG Micro.
According to SonyInsider, the XC card format will make it possible to produce 64GB and 128GB memory sticks. It also says that a natural progression to 2TB capacity is expected. These high capacity memory sticks will utilize the exFAT file system and SDXC technology to provide faster transfer speeds.
Theoretically, the cards will provide data transfer speeds of 160Mbps in 4-bit parallel data transfer and 480Mbps in 8-bit parallel data transfer. The maximum Clock frequencies range between 40MHz and 60MHz. The copyright protection for the card will be offered by MagicGate.
It is speculated that these new sticks will incorporate similar slot technology. They are also believed to support older generation cards. There is no official word on the pricing or availability details of the XC cards. We are still unsure as to which devices will initially support these cards.
