Eye-Fi wireless SD memory cards and iPhone application announced
Eye-Fi announces the release of two new wireless SD memory cards which let you upload videos directly from a digital camera to the PC/Web. The cards claim to be the first ever wireless memory card for digicams. Apart from automatic photo uploads, it also lets you easily upload video clips to YouTube or Flickr.
Upload your favorite content to more than 20 social networking and online photo sharing sites with the 4GB Eye-Fi Share Video and Eye-Fi Explore Video cards. Furthermore, the Eye-Fi Explore Video card also offers hotspot access at more than 10,000 Wi-Fi locations and automatically geotags photos and videos along with location information.
“The magic of Eye-Fi’s new cards is that they work with the camera you already own to capture photos – and now videos – and send them directly to the Web for sharing,” said Jef Holove, CEO for Eye-Fi. “Whether you’re spending time with your kids or chatting with a friend, your memories will upload in the background for instant sharing – all by simply turning on your camera.”
“According to our research, nearly half of consumers reach for their digital camera to take video, instead of their other video capture devices, like phones or camcorders,” said Alan Bullock, research analyst with InfoTrends. “Solutions like Eye-Fi make it easy for consumers to use the digital camera they already own to shoot and share videos.”
You can pre-order the Eye-Fi cards at $79 (4GB Eye-Fi Share Video) and $99 (4GB Eye-Fi Explore Video). They are said to hit the stores later this month.
Well, Eye-Fi’s some other cards including the 2GB Eye-Fi Home and 2GB Eye-Fi Share are priced at $49 and $59 respectively. They also available at Apple Retail Stores, Best Buy and from retailers like Amazon, Walmart and Costco.
Eye-Fi is also said to release its new iPhone application which lets the Eye-Fi users store and share all their photos from both iPhone and digital camera to PC/ Web. All the iPhone users owning an Eye-Fi card can now download a free application from the Apple App Store.
