Toshiba rolls out 640GB HDD

Storage today has become really important and to have the right kind of device in order to store data becomes further crucial as often there is a threat of losing it. Toshiba offers a new option by launching its latest series at 5,400 RPM, 2.5-inch HDDs that offer up to 640GB of storage capacity.

Toshiba is known for the small form factor that its products come with and now they come with the largest storage space in a 2.5-inch HDD. With this lineup, the company targets to offer an attractive array of solution for computing applications such as notebook PCs, all-in-one desktops to high definition image applications. The company also claims that with this HDD, users will benefit from lower power consumption and will not have to sacrifice on storage capacities.

This series of HDDs comes in storage capacities of 640GB, 500GB, 320GB, 250GB and 160GB. This drive also offers an areal density of 817.9Mbit/mm2. Users do not need to worry about the device being rendered useless due to a falls as the company has supplied this drive with a free-fall sensor.

While operating, this drive offers significant performance improvements and the energy consumption has now been raised to 28 percent. This MK6465GSX family is also compliant with various eco-friendly features such as European Union’s RoHS directive and halogen free, decreased CO2.

The pricing and availability of this drive has not been disclosed yet, but can be expected in due course.
