Samsung Spinpoint F3 hard drives with 500GB per platter
Samsung has introduced a new lineup of high-density hard drives termed the Spinpoint F3. These new drives are said to meet the data center requirements for additional storage as well as the rising demand for enhanced performance.
The F3 offers up to 1TB of storage via two 500GB platter disks. The increased density per platter ensures up to 30 percent improvement in performance. The F3 drives provide higher performance with low power consumption. The drives operate at a speed of 7200RPM and feature 3.0Gbps SATA interface.
“Our customers require not only additional capacity but also high performance for their server and desktop storage systems, while promoting a green environment. The massive capacity-per-platter and high-performance features of the new Spinpoint F3 make it an attractive solution for driving the growth of high-density storage,” said Choel-Hee Lee, vice president of marketing, Storage Systems Division, Samsung Electronics.
These drives include comparatively lesser mechanical parts which further improve their reliability. This feature also protects the data from shocks and reduces the chances of data failure. Thanks to the SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technology, these drives deliver a quite operation system.
The Spinpoint also complies with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive. The other specifications of these drives include Native Command Queuing and 16 MB/32MB buffer memory.
The Samsung Spinpoint F3 will be made available in August. The pricing details for these drives are yet to be disclosed.
