Seagate announced its new wide range of FreeAgent external hard drives. The new generation of Seagate FreeAgent family offers attractive desktop and mobile options for Mac as well as Windows operated PCs.

Seagate FreeAgent hard drives come with Energy Star 5 rated AC adapters and packaged in 100% recyclable materials. Incase the drive has been idle for 15 minutes then it goes into the sleep mode. Seagate’s slimmest external drive FreeAgent Go portable storage offers a docking option, USB 2.0 and up to 500GB of capacity. This 12.5mm hard drive easily fits into your pockets and includes advanced shock and vibration protection. The FreeAgent Go desktop docking station is sold separately and comes with a black leatherette carrying case.

The FreeAgent Go is available in several colors like black, red, silver and blue. It will be available this month in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific for a suggested retail price of $119.99 (approx Rs. 5,520) for 250GB, $149.99 for 320GB (approx Rs. 6,900) and $239.99 (approx Rs. 11,045) for 500GB.

“With the amount of content being created and consumed today, the average broadband household will soon need close to a terabyte of storage to account for their personal media collections on PCs, portable devices, and DVRs,” said Jane Shields, research analyst, Parks Associates. “With Seagate’s coupling of high-capacity, reliable and easy-to-use solutions with attractive designs, the company is helping more people enjoy the benefits that come with backup and sharing of their digital media collections.”

The FreeAgent Desk and FreeAgent XTreme are the other new 3.5-inch high-capacity desktop drives offering up to 1.5 Terabytes of storage. These sleek hard drives offer utmost flexibility with large storage capacity. The FreeAgent Desk drive is a brushed aluminum storage solution with USB 2.0 interface while the FreeAgent XTreme drive is a black, brushed aluminum storage device with a triple interface of eSATA, USB 2.0 and FireWire 400.

The FreeAgent Desk drive will be available in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific for a retail price of $129.99 (approx Rs.) for 500GB, $149.99 (approx Rs. 6,900) for 640GB, $229.99 (approx Rs. 10,588) for 1TB and $279.99 (approx Rs. 12,890) for 1.5TB in October. The FreeAgent XTreme drive is retail priced at $159.99 (approx Rs. 7,370) for 500GB, $179.99 (approx Rs. 8,280) for 640GB, $259.99 (approx Rs. 11,963) for 1TB and $299.99 (approx Rs. 13,810) for 1.5TB. It will be available in October.

Compatible with Windows Vista and Windows XP OS, Seagate FreeAgent drives come equipped with Seagate Manager Software that provides automated back-ups, multi-computer synchronization, AES-256bit encryption and Seagate DrivePass password protection.

The Seagate FreeAgent Go Drive for Mac comes with FireWire 800/400 interface, docking station and a carrying case. The Seagate FreeAgent Go for Mac is suggested for a retail price of $159.99 (approx Rs. 7,367) for 250GB and $189.99 (approx Rs. 8,748) for 320GB.

The FreeAgent Desk Drive for Mac sports a brushed aluminum arctic silver finish and features a FireWire 800/400 connection and tuned to be Time Machine ready. It will be available in October for an expected retail price of $169.99 (approx Rs. 7,828) for 500GB, $269.99 (approx Rs. 12,432) for 1TB and $349.99 (approx Rs. 16,115) for 1.5TB.

The FreeAgent dock and case will be available in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific for a suggested retail price of $29.99 (approx Rs. 1,380).
