Western Digital Introduces 500GB DVR Expander

My Library Video Edition DVR Expander Western Digital, the renowned hard drive makers has announced its new DVR Expander, called the My Library Video Edition DVR Expander.

Aimed at consumers in need of more storage capacity for their HD content, a 500GB hard drive is capable of storing up to 300 hours of standard TV shows or 60 hours of high-definition programs.

My Library is currently compatible with scientific Atlanta 8300 series digital video recorders that work as a plug-in attachment to set-top DVRs. The company claims that it’s working with other cable and satellite DVR manufacturers so the Expander will work with their devices as they add eSATA (external SATA) ports to their DVRs.

The DVR Expander should work with any PVR that has an eSATA port and that includes Series3 TiVo. However, TiVo hasn’t officially enabled the use of the eSATA port on Series3 units.

The Western Digital’s My Library DVR Expander is available for $200 from WD’s online store.
