AMD will drop ATI brand name?

ATI Radeon AMD Logo All those who were used to reading the names AMD and ATI together, might have to witness a slight change in the scenario henceforth. If the stories are to be believed, AMD has decided to remove ATI’s name from its products. Tech Report has revealed that AMD plans to introduce new products including AMD microprocessor and Radeon graphics technologies on a single chip.

Apparently, this decision is backed by the results of a survey which was conducted by AMD. The research is touted to have revealed that gadget buffs are more familiar with Radeon and like AMD as a name too. This could have encouraged AMD to consider removing the ATI name from its products. It is assumed that the company is planning to retain its own name and replace ATI Radeon as well as ATI FirePro with Radeon and FirePro.

It is also being said that the same pattern will be followed for Radeon and FirePro discrete graphics cards too. The AMD logo might be removed from the lower half, probably to allow manufacturers to avoid the oil-and-water combination of Intel and AMD branding. However, Tech Report also mentions that existing products including the Radeon HD 5000 series will not witness any changes.

Moreover, PC users may gear up for the Fusion, Ontario, Bobcat as well as Llano CPU’s and GPU’s arrival in the first half of next year. Supposedly, the Fusion APU will be a part of Vision branding introduced by AMD last fall. Also, the company may or may not rename ATI Eyefinity technology as AMD Eyefinity.

AMD’s plan to remove ATI’s name from their upcoming products hasn’t been supported by an official press release as yet.
