7th generation iPod nano goes slim with 2.5-inch display and Lightning port

Apple’s 7th generation iPod nano has been redesigned all over again to offer enhanced features in a small footprint. And a few highlights to look out for are the 2.5-inch screen, Bluetooth support and Lightning connector.

The refreshed nano is said to be the company thinnest iPod that measures just about 5mm in thickness. The device shows off a larger screen compared to the ones featured on the earlier versions. This 2.5-inch multi-touch display allows users to search music files as well as view videos and images.

As per the company’s claim, the device should make navigation a little easier with the home button that lets users switch back to the home screen quickly. It also tags along a number of other keys that are placed at convenient locations. Through these buttons, users will be able to adjustment the volume as well as play, pause and change tracks swiftly.

“With over 350 million sold, iPod is the world’s most popular and beloved music player,” commented Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Music lovers may have a difficult time deciding between the reinvented iPod nano, the thinnest iPod ever, and the all-new iPod touch with its stunning 4-inch Retina display, 5 megapixel iSight camera and ultra-thin design—both in beautiful new colors.”

In addition to the above mentioned attributes, this media player supports Bluetooth connectivity that enables users to pair with other devices such as headphones and speakers to stream tracks wirelessly. For those concerned about battery life, it is capable of delivering up to 30 hours of music playback at a stretch.

A few prime highlights of the iPod include the built-in fitness features. They comprise of a pedometer and Nike+ support that could be used while listening to music during jogs, walks and the likes. The device comes in 7 fresh colors along with a host of matching wallpapers.

Like the iPhone 5, this one too employs an all-new 19-pin connector dubbed Lightning. It is said to be smaller, smarter and more durable than the previous dock. The package isn’t over yet; the device is bundled with a set of Apple EarPods for an enhanced entertainment experience.

Apple’s 7th generation iPod nano price is marked at $149 (approx. Rs. 8,260) for the 16GB version and its release date has been slated for October this year. It will be available via the company’s online store and retail outlets as well as through authorized resellers across the country. Potential buyers can pick up the device dipped in shades of pink, yellow, blue, green, purple, silver and slate.
