Siemens and Microsoft develops In-car Entertainment
German engineering company Siemens AG and software maker Microsoft have teamed up to work on a line of communication, information, entertainment and navigation products for various vehicles, including cars and trucks.
For the first time a Siemens products that includes high-end multimedia units, will come pre-loaded with Microsoft software. The next generation automotive infotainment also has interfaces that enable to connect portable electronic entertainment devices.
With the help of Microsoft Auto platform, Siemens will develop the device that allows integrating functions and portable devices more closely into the vehicle.
According to a joint statement from the two companies, Siemens VDO will also be able to actively help shape Microsoft Auto and license platform-compliant applications, such as navigation functions, for third-party suppliers.
The latest In-vehicle infotainment product from Siemens and Microsoft is slated to be available in early 2009.
