Slingbox drops anchor in India, brings television entertainment to portable devices

At an event held today in Mumbai, Sling Media tugged at the heart strings of entertainment enthusiasts by unveiling its latest range of video placeshifting products. The company launched in India different Slingbox offerings namely the Slingbox PRO-HD, Slingbox 120, SlingLink and SlingPlayer Mobile software. These devices are touted to make watching television easier and accessible anytime, anywhere.

Through the latest products, live TV content from a satellite receiver, cable box, video camera or DVR can be enjoyed and controlled via any remote device. This includes various portable offerings such as tablets, laptops, mobile phones and even the PC. Content is streamed through a broadband Internet connection which enables users to view all their desired TV content from anywhere around the globe.

“The Slingbox is a pioneer product in placeshifting technology and marks a milestone for television viewing in India,” commented Raghu Tarra, Managing Director of Sling Media. “With Slingbox, consumers can now catch their favorite cricket match, show or movie from anywhere in the world. Now anyone with a Broadband Internet connection can enjoy viewing their television on a laptop, smartphone or tablet device.”

The basic version of Slingbox entitled Slingbox 120 has the ability to stream standard-definition content while the Slingbox PRO-HD unfurls all the users’ favorite programs in complete high-definition. The SlingLink has the ability to deliver smooth video playback with a simplified home Internet network connection. Smartphones owners can enjoy television content directly on their handsets by simply downloading SlingPlayer Mobile software.

The company tags the Slingbox 120 and Slingbox PRO-HD at Rs.7,999 and Rs.14,999 respectively while the SlingLink is offered at Rs. 4,999. At the event, the company disclosed that these costs were special introductory IPL Cricket prices. Furthermore, SlingPlayer Mobile software can be downloaded from different mobile application marketplaces priced at around Rs. 1,327.
