iKey offers customized, wearable keyboard for SpecOps Systems
Yenning to bring in a WC2 computer with an integrated keyboard wherein the keyboard easily integrates within the system alongside maintaining durability required in extreme conditions, SpecOps Systems teams up with iKey. SpecOps Systems was striving to design rugged, wearable computer technology for enhanced usage for military soldiers.
SpecOps Systems finally revealed a working prototype of the KYB-170-OEM which is an ultra-compact keyboard with 2.55″ x 2.75″ x 0.22″ (w-h-d) dimensions. The initial prototype was out “production ready” within the stipulated time and minus the need for engineering changes to its several factors.
“We saw that iKey had experience with the military and they had a unit similar to what we wanted,” said Caroline Tucker, Executive Vice President of Sales and Business Development for SpecOps Systems. “The thing that impressed us the most about iKey was that we told them what we needed, and quickly had a conference call to discuss the details. Literally, within 24 hours, we had a prototype drawing. It was this focus on the customer that led us to go with iKey rather than any other vendor – we knew we had found a vendor who embraced our requirements.”
The KYB-170-OEM’s spec sheet reveals a 17-key keypad which functions just like a cellular phone while texting. Users can access characters by typing a specific key sequentially. It also comes with built-in micro Force Sensing Resistor (FSR) pointing device that can be manufactured with any available color of LED lighting for dark environments.
The KYB-170-OEM offers resistance to dirt, dust, liquids and other ingress on proper installation. Designed to meet MIL-STD-461E requirements, it is available with a USB cable. The various models of the WC2 with integrated keyboard are now undergoing dual testing in theater and stateside while iKey has made available the KYB-170-OEM as a standard product.
