BMW and MINI to support iPod Out capability for iPhone and iPod touch

The latest offering that iOS 4 includes is the iPod Out feature crafted especially for iPhone 3G and 3GS, iPhone 4 as well as 2nd and 3rd generation iPod touch. Now BMW has revealed plans to offer an interface which will flash the functions of iPhone and iPod touch on the display of the BMW and MINI infotainment system fitted in the cars.

BMW users can manage music and playback controls like on iPhone and iPod touch on their system screens. The monitor exhibits the iPod navigation menu which can be operated through the car’s interface controls. This new venture is created in connection with the BMW ConnectedDrive and is a part of the MINI Connected for MINI systems.

Additionally it exposes users to certain dedicated features of the iPod namely, Genius and custom playlists which they can enjoy along with tracks saved in their library. BMW also reveals that upcoming vehicles that will incorporate this technology will accept the software lifecycles of iPod touch and iPhone faster.

The origin of this concept can be traced to BMW’s Research and Development Centre in Munich, Germany and the BMW Group Technology Office Palo Alto in Silicon Valley, California.

Pricing and availability details of BMW’s new interface are still under wraps.
