Intel debuts new products for Atom processor family, flaunts Canoe Lake netbook

The omnipresent Intel Atom processor family will have some new members this year. The Computex 2010 is playing witness to Intel’s introduction of several new products such as the Canoe Lake dual-core netbook, Pine Trail mobile dual-core and Oak Trail processors among others.
Intel has partnered with Google, Logitech and Sony to bring in a Smart TVs experience which will be supported by the Intel Atom CE products and the Android based Google TV. The company recently revealed the future SoC Atom-based Tunnel Creek that claims to allow businesses to connect their custom silicon to Intel’s SoC product.
Intel has also launched a processor and MeeGo software in collaboration with the Chinese car manufacturer HawTai Automobile to create an in-vehicle-infotainment platform. The company’s next generation Atom processor platform for smartphones and other handheld devices are expected to enable significantly lower power consumption.
“Intel believes the strength of the Atom franchise can help consumers realize the true potential for a common experience to enable the compute continuum,” explained David Perlmutter, executive VP and co-general manager, Intel Architecture Group. “With platforms ranging from compact and portable netbooks, to Smart TV experiences and innovative tablets designs, Intel Architecture is driving innovative products based on a unique ‘port of choice’ software strategy.”
Tablets from Acer integrated with the MeeGo software platform which are intended to create an open ecosystem of innovation can be expected in future. Asus is anticipated to be the first OEM that will sell a pre-installed, customized AppUp client dubbed ‘asus app store’ for notebooks that will include the MeeGo based systems.
“Acer will be ready with MeeGo-based mobile devices,” affirmed Gianfranco Lanci, CEO, Acer. “MeeGo’s open software platform will present our customers with another choice of a friendly, easy-to-use operating system. We are pleased to collaborate with Intel in our continuous drive to provide effortless technologies that empower people at work, home – anytime, anywhere.”
The Intel Atom processor also powers the Intel Reader, while the Oak Trail processor is designed for tablets and sleek netbook form factors. They are built to permit users to reduce power usage by 50% and are slated to be out by 2011. Users will be able to enjoy HD video playback and access softwares including MeeGo, Windows 7 and Google OS with these netbooks.
Intel flaunted the Canoe Lake netbook which measures 14mm and claims to be 50% thinner than its counterparts. This device will be powered by the upcoming Intel mobile dual-core Pine Trail processor. Intel Atom processors N455 and N475 with DDR3 for netbooks are currently available in the market. The D525 and D425 desktop PCs are scheduled to be made available this June 21.
A lot of poeple are probably waiting to lay hands on the products that are part of Intel’s upcoming offerings. Unfortunately no definite details on availability and pricing have emerged.
