Orb Audio launches high-tech speaker line

Orb Audio Speakers

Orb Audio has now launched a high-tech speaker line which boasts of speakers that are small yet really powerful. The compact Orb systems are claimed to be a power-house of performance. Their greatest standout is that these speakers are hand made and they are known to have better sound clarity than that of speakers which cost nearly 2 to 3 times their price and size.

The spherical Mod1 satellite speaker which is slightly bigger than a baseball is the heart of the Orb speaker system and it is made from high carbon steel. Rare earth magnets like Santoprene, Nomex and CCAD voice coils are used to manufacture the Mod1. That’s supposedly the secret behind the full sound that is loud and has superb clarity despite the small package.

“We are more ‘Made in the U.S.A.’ as a product line than almost anyone else in the audio industry,” mentioned Ethan Siegel, co-founder and CEO of Orb Audio. “This is very important to us, and it is made possible by our internet-only, direct-to-consumer business model that cuts out the wholesaler, the retailer, and the resulting markups in between. Our big advantage is that we spend more money than our peers on custom, advanced components, and then we combine that with a labor-intensive manufacturing and finishing process that yields a better sounding, better looking speaker that also happens to cost less. This is what sets us apart from most of the other systems out there.”

He further added, “Using ultra-high quality parts, and using them conservatively, really allows us to push the limits of physics so that these little speakers have a lot of the characteristics of much bigger speakers. My partner (co-founder and Chief Designer, Gary Pelled) really pulled the rabbit out of the hat on this one”

The sound clarity is enhanced with the help of neat steel cabinets that are designed with both sound and style in mind. The Orbs are absolutely décor friendly making them suitable for the living room. They are worked upon by metal work artisans and hand-assembled in the company’s Sherman Oaks California production facility. The round speakers measure only about 4 3/16 inches in diameter. There are five finishes available. The Metallic Black Gloss and Pearl white Gloss are both baked-on powder coatings. The beauty of their finish can be compared with that of an upscale automobile. There is also a Metallum series which consists of three handmade metallic finishes. They are hand- polished steel, Hand-Antiqued Copper and Hand-Antiqued Bronze.

A unique feature of the Orb is that it is modular and upgradeable. While other speaker systems have to be completely replaced by users who wish to upgrade them that is not the case with the Orb. It is made up of one, two, or four individual orbs namely Mod1, Mod2, Mod4. Depending on the users requirement the Orb can be upgraded from Mod1 to Mod2 or Mod4 at any time.

The company also sells two subwoofers, the Super Eight and the Uber ten. These are of real high quality and are claimed to be much better than many other than other units many times their size. Besides this the Orb is compatible with a number of receivers and DVD players. The company reveals that its most popular gizmo is the Mod1 Plus Home Theatre system. This system consists of 5 speakers, the Super Eight subwoofer and a handmade stainless steel speaker.

The estimated cost of the Home theatre system is around $999 and the starting price range for Orb Audio products is $239. This includes a Quick Pack of two satellite speakers.
