Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 starts shipping

Logitech PS3 Harmony Remote Adapter

Remember the PS3 harmony remote adapter from Logitech, which was all set to hit the markets soon? Now, Logitech has announced the shipment of the Harmony Remote Adapter for PS3, easing the control of the home entertainment system in addition to the PlayStation 3.

Keeping the PS3’s USB port unoccupied, the Harmony Remote Adapter is powered by an AC adapter. It works in conjunction with all the Harmony remote controls and even links the IR signal from a Logitech universal remote to the custom Bluetooth command library used by the PS3.

Supporting all 51 PS3 commands, it enables users to switch the console on/off and control any DVD and Blu-ray Disc movies as well as navigate the PS3 XrossMediaBar (XMB).

Measuring 99.4 x 65.6 x 18.5 mm and weighing 49.5g, the peripheral inherits a custom button mapping layout that is expected to be available as and when consumers register the PS3 on their online Harmony account. It is compatible with Macros, shortcuts and other universal remote functionalities. However, the company states the Harmony Remote Adapter will not support any other remote, manufactured by other company.

Slashgear reports that the adapter will be available “in the next few weeks” in North America through Amazon. There is no word about the same from the company though.

Priced at $59.99 (approx. Rs. 2,972), the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 is now available for purchase in the U.S. and is slated to reach the European market by July.
