Sony launches DVDirect VRD-MC6 DVD recorder

Sony DVDirect DVD Recorder

Sony has introduced a DVD recorder in the form of the DVDirect VRD-MC6. It is capable of burning both high definition and standard definition home videos/digital photos onto DVDs without connecting it to a computer.

The VRD-MC6 model comes equipped with a 2.7-inch color LCD screen. This screen allows users to preview videos and up to six digital photos at a glance. This recorder is capable of transferring AVCHD quality videos in 1080i HD resolution. The recorded discs are compatible with various players including Blu-ray Disc devices, computer drives as well as the PlayStation 3. The MC6 can also be connected to a Sony hard drive or any memory stick-based Handycam.

“Many customers still have their old home movies on tapes and are looking for an easy solution to archive their personal digital imaging content on DVD discs. With the larger built-in LCD color screen in a smaller body, the new DVDirect model makes it easier for customers to transfer the content to DVD discs for archiving, enjoying and sharing with family and friends,” said Shige Nakayama, manger of the DVDirect business at Sony.

This new model also supports input from digital video, composite video input and USB ports. The device is also capable of recording the digital photos as a slideshow complete with background music in MP3 format. The VRD-MC6 incorporates support for Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Pro Duo media, Secure Digital and xD-picture card media.

The automatic DVD menu and the title creation feature provides users with four preset menu backgrounds. Apart from this, the recorder also features the ability to import JPEG images to serve as the background.

A standard 4.7GB DVD+R/+RW is capable of holding up to six hours of standard-definition video, up to 95 minutes of AVCHD video or up to 2,000 digital pictures. The 8.5GB DVD+R can hold over 10 hours of standard definition video. The VDR-MC6 is capable of maintaining Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound quality and 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio.

The DVDirect VRD-MC6 is expected to be available at Sony Style stores and other major retailers in September. The recorder will be priced at $299 (approx. Rs.14,620).
