Samsung SH-0B083 Drive

Samsung has launched its first ever Blu-ray disc Combo called the SH-0B083. This internal Blu-ray drive boasts of large storage capacities of up to 25GB for a single layer disc and 50GB for a double layer disc.

The drive features a 2MB buffer memory along with a SATA connection interface. The SH-0B083 provides 8x read speeds for BD-R and BD-ROMs. It is also capable of reading DVDs at a speed of 16x and CDs at a speed of 40x. All thanks to its dual-layer jumping algorithm, the Samsung drive boasts of access speeds of 350ms.

“Expanding the HD content experience for PC users, Blu-ray technology offers consumers a lot of advantages over traditional ODD technology,” said John Suh, director of OMS sales and marketing. “With Samsung’s new BD drive, users can not only watch HD movies on their PC but they can also record HDTV broadcasting on to a DVD with the bundled software Cyberlink Powerproducer. They also can record HD camcorder movies to a DVD disc with Powerproducer.”

The SH-B083 comes equipped with two lenses for more stable reading and writing. One of these lenses is dedicated towards reading Blu-ray discs while the other caters to CD/DVD read/write. The Spherical aberration compensation technology (SACT) improves the reading quality of the BD drive.

The Samsung SH-0B083 Blu-ray drive combo is expected to hit the market this November. The drive will be made available via retailers as well as eRetailers like Amazon and Newegg. The pricing details of this device are yet to be disclosed.
