Netgear outs RangeMax Wireless-N router

Netgear RangeMax Router With increasing number users opting for wireless networks, routers are rapidly gaining importance in today’s era. Identifying this trait Netgear has introduced the RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit router. This brand new router comes with a USB port and claims to be a full featured wireless-N router that offers high-performance wireless range and speed. The other features that this router incorporates include Gigabit Ethernet ports and ReadyShare USB storage access.

The RangeMax has been designed to deliver reliable and enhanced performance via its opensource Linux platform. Moreover, the router is said to support a host of applications created by the dedicated opensource community. The RangeMax also offers support for firmware like DD-WRT, OpenWRT and Tomato that simplify the development of a wide variety of applications.

“The debut of our opensource RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router is significant as it is the first full-featured Wireless-N Linuxrouter to combine wide ranging capabilities, features, infrastructure and a communityto enable application development,” stated Som Pal Choudhury, senior product line manager for advanced wireless at NETGEAR. “Feedback and ideas from our opensource community have beenkey in developing this powerful platform. We are therefore very pleased to announce our Development Partner Program, with multiple software vendors and developers creating customized, robust, commercial-grade applications on the WNR3500L.”

This router features a 480MHz MIPS along with a 74K CPU core that comes embedded with hardware acceleration. The 8MB flash memory and 64MB of RAM are said to flawlessly run business-class applications. The device also incorporates five Ethernet ports with auto-sensing technology. The wireless repeater mode of the RangeMax is said to further extend its range. Also known as the WNR3500L, the RangeMax flaunts a USB 2.0 host port for USB networked storage. The router also supports WPA and WPS connections.

The Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit router will be made available this fall via select retailers, direct marketers, e-commerce sites and value-added resellers. Backed by a one year warranty and 24/7 technical support, the Netgear router will retail for around $139.99 (approx. Rs. 6,605) in the US.
