SoftBank Yahoo Phone for Japan runs on Google Android 2.3 platform

A classic example of two arch rivals coming together has to be the SoftBank Yahoo Phone which employs the Google Android 2.3 platform under the hood. Considering that Yahoo is one of the largest websites of Japan and SoftBank its biggest share holder in the country, the association does not seem so surprising after all.
TechCrunch reveals, the phone manufactured by Sharp is nothing but another version of the Aquos Phone The Premium SoftBank 009SH which was showcased earlier. Operating on the Android 2.3 platform, the phone is equipped with a 4-inch LCD display with QHD resolution. It boasts of a powerful 8 megapixel CMOS camera.
Attributes commonly found in handsets of Japan like e-wallet function and a digital TV tuner are also integrated in the phone. It allows expanding the internal memory with the help of its microSDHC card slot. While the communication option is inclusive of the IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, it can be connected to various other devices via Bluetooth or infrared.
Needless to say the phone will allow access to the Google Android Market and will come pre-loaded with applications of Yahoo Japan. Services from Yahoo like the Auctions, calendar, dictionary and Yahoo Loco will be directly accessible from the device’s home page.
An additional advantage is that owners of the phone will earn the Yahoo Japan premium membership for a period of two years, free of cost, after which they will be charged $4.50 per month. Moreover, they will receive extra points on purchases through Yahoo Shopping during these two years.
The SoftBank Yahoo Phone is slated to release in Japan next month.
