A number of phones including the Motorola Droid X and Samsung Fascinate have hopped on to Verizon Wireless over the past few weeks. Now the Samsung Intensity II is available through Verizon Wireless’s online store. This feature-rich handset flaunts a lot of features and is fitted with a horizontal slide-out QWERTY keypad.

The 2.2” QVGA display exhibits a resolution of about 240 x 320p and the 1.3MP infrared camera is equipped with night vision capabilities. The camera also includes a host of shot modes and color effects. The last mentioned include antique, black and white, normal, negative, aqua and green effects. This Bluetooth ready device integrates voice commands and improved speech recognition functionality as well.

“We’re excited about the Intensity II launch because a major part of Verizon’s sustainability strategy is providing products that utilize post-consumer materials,” explained Jim Gowen, chief sustainability officer for Verizon.

The gadget is embedded with a microSD slot which accommodates memory cards of up to 32GB. Additionally, the phone boasts of a built-in music player and even allows owners to access their personal and corporate e-mails. Facebook, Twitter and MySpace accounts, IM and e-mail can also be managed through the Social Beat application.

With VZ Navigator, users can avail of audible turn-by-turn directions to various locations and share directions too. Apart from IM capabilities, the phone supports an array of services from Verizon Wireless that includes V Cast Music with Rhapsody, V Cast Song ID and VZW Tones. It also includes one-touch contact list to access the phonebook for frequently used numbers.

Available in deep gray and metallic blue shades, the handset integrates an eco-calculator that tracks car fuel mileage, efficiency and the projected amount of carbon dioxide emitted. Its battery cover is cited to be crafted from 35% post-consumer materials. The phone is sold with a high-efficiency battery charger.

The Samsung Intensity II handset is expected to hit Verizon Wireless retail stores within the next few weeks. The device is priced at $49.99 (approx. Rs. 2,320) and is backed by a two-year customer agreement.
