Samsung Galaxy 3 handset brings social networking to the fingertips

Mobile phones are now being designed with the goal of letting users explore the world of social networking and connectivity in one package. Mobile phone buffs may now make way for the I5800 Galaxy 3 handset by Samsung. This feature-rich device aims to cater to audiences looking out for convenient access to the web at their fingertips.

The Android 2.1 based phone allows users to view content on its 3.2” WQVGA TFT LCD screen displaying a resolution of 240 x 400p. Its 3MP camera has been attributed with AF functionality. Apart from offering users the ability to take pictures using AddMe shot, Panorama Shot, Smile Shot, Action shot and Timer Shot, the camera includes digital zoom too. With the built-in video recorder users can shoot 320 x 240p resolution videos in DivX/Xvid, WMV, H.263, H.264 and MPEG4 formats at 15fps.

This device has a number of distinct benefits that can be tailored to suit users’ personal tastes,” explained JK Shin, President and Head of the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “The Galaxy 3 seamlessly integrates active social networking and rich media experiences to provide the best social and multi-media capabilities available on the market today.”

Users can listen to their favorite music tracks through the DNSe equipped MP3 player that plays music in a host of formats such as AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR, WMA, MIDI and OGG. The phone also proffers FM radio with RDS and comes along with a 3.5mm ear jack. This Bluetooth v3.0 enabled device offers wireless connectivity through Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and All Share. Its networking capabilities spread across 2.5G 850/900/1800/1900MHz and 3G HSDPA 3.6MB/s 900/2100MHz.

The storage capacity of the Samsung 3 extends internal memory of about 170MB as well as a 1GB microSD card. The memory capacity can be expanded by up to 32GB. Users may sync contacts from social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter with the device. Images from Facebook and Picasa can be uploaded, managed and shared to create a digital album through the Social Hub with the help of the integrated media browser. The exterior of the device has been embedded with a USB v2.0 port.

The I5800 supports an array of services offered by Google such as Google Maps, Calendar, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Search with Search by voice and access to the Android Market as well as built-in A-GPS. The Layar Reality browser delivers rich content that shows the real view of a location. Users can obtain information about a landmark through Google Maps by just holding the handset to a POI.

The phone’s TouchWiz 3.0 user interface helps in making searching or browsing an easy and spontaneous experience. This device also incorporates an accelerometer, proximity, magnetic and an ambient light sensor. It is powered by a 1500mAh Li-ion battery that offers talk time of about 5 hours on a 2G network and about 7 hours on 3G. The standby time provided by the battery is roughly 625 hours on a 2G network and 517 hours on 3G. The dimensions of the Galaxy 3 have been calculated to be approximately 113.5mm x 55mm x 12.85mm.

The Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3 handset can be expected to reach the European and Asian markets from July this year. The company has not revealed details regarding the price of their latest offering as yet.
