Touchscreen handsets are seeing a lot of takers these days. The demand is not necessarily driven purely by the novelty of the concept – touch-responsive UIs are merely a step further in intuitive human-to-machine interaction. 3 has announced the availability of Nokia’s 5230 touchscreen phone to customers across the U.K.

This device comes with a 3.2” touch-sensitive display that delivers 640 x 360p resolutions in a 16:9 aspect ratio. It runs the Symbian OS v9.4 and possesses 70MB of onboard memory that is expandable to 16GB with its microSD card slot. It incorporates a 2MP camera with 3 x digital zoom and media player. Other features include GPS, PIM applications, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, a wide network coverage span and so on.

Apart from Windows Live Messenger and Email on 3, users can take advantage of integrated Facebook and Twitter applications. The former provides access to live feeds and photo uploader while the latter application permits owners to upload and view tweets conveniently. Additionally, users may also download Spotify for Symbian application at £9.99 (approx. Rs.727) per month.

3 is currently offering the phone in two colors, namely, black and white on their online store, 3 Stores and telesales. It is proffered for £18 (approx. Rs.1,311) per month on an 18-month contract basis with unlimited text and internet and 200 any network, anytime minutes. Optionally customers can also avail of the phone for £149.99 (approx. Rs.10,927) on Pay as You Go basis. It is extended with free texts and internet allowance for up to 90 days.
