Verizon Wireless now selling Samsung Fascinate
Mobile phone buffs have already been informed that Verizon was going to pick up Samsung’s Fascinate handset, with Best Buy kicking off pre-orders for the device back in August. It looks like the Samsung Fascinate is finally ready to move out onto the streets with Verizon Wireless announcing its online availability starting from today. This new Galaxy S member won’t be out at Verizon Wireless Communications stores until tomorrow though.
The Android 2.1 phone is equipped with a Super AMOLED screen and a Samsung 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird application processor. The messaging and other input options include a virtual QWERTY keyboard enhanced with Swype technology. For perennial book-lovers, the device also comes pre-installed with Amazon’s Kindle for Android app.
The carrier has put up several accessories to go with the smartphone. These include a $29.99 (approx. Rs. 1,400) charging cradle, a $39.99 (approx. Rs. 1,900) car dock and a backup up battery charging system that also costs $39.99 (approx. Rs. 1,900). The last mentioned houses a 1500mAh battery, a Y-cable for powering up a handset, a spare battery and a battery charger.
The charging cradle serves as a phone charger and a microUSB wall adapter. It may also be employed as a desktop speakerphone and offers the pre-loaded Samsung Desk Home app that enables users to tweak brightness levels apart from allowing one-touch access to Samsung Widgets and Bing Voice Search.
With the car dock, users can have the phone securely attached to the dashboard or windshield. It displays turn-by-turn GPS navigation directions and rotates smoothly between portrait and landscape mode. Apart from the pre-installed Desk Home app, the handset also comes with the company’s very own Car Home app.
The Samsung Fascinate can be picked up for $199.99 (approx. Rs. 9,300) after a $100 (approx. Rs. 4,500) mail-in rebate on a two-year customer contract. Customers are required to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan starting at $39.99 (approx. Rs. 1,900) a month and an Email and Web for Smartphone plan commencing at $29.99 (approx. Rs. 1,400) for unlimited monthly access.
