Vodafone VF 150 ultra-low cost handset hits India for Rs. 799

Mobile phone enthusiasts in India can brace themselves for the most affordable handset courtesy Vodafone. Yes, the company has unleashed the new Vodafone 150 phone also dubbed as VF 150 at an ultra-low price in the country.

Looking at widening the accessibility of mobile technology to millipns across the country, this new phone is mainly tailored for large and isolated rural settings. The company hopes to maximize its avilability by offering a large logistics infrastructure even reaching rural segments where mobile penetration is not that good.

Kumar Ramanathan, Chief Marketing Officer, Vodafone Essar mentioned, “The cost of handset can be a significant barrier for people in accessing and benefiting from the mobile revolution. At the price point of VF 150, many more people will become part of the connected world. We will continue to facilitate consumer empowerment through such initiatives.”

Vodafone alleges to have kept its manufacturing costs to a minimum by centering its attention on offering a custom-built feature set and packaging design. All this is delivered, without really giving up user experience, quality or safety. Allowing users to take advantage of voice and text based services, the phone sports a 1.0” B&W display with a resolution of 96 x 64.

In a black color, the device measures about 104 x 46 x 15 mm in size and weighs just about 70g. Supporting SMS, the phone is incorporated with the MediaTek Neptune software platform. Boasting of a speakerphone, the handset allows GSM 900/1800 network access and includes a mini USB connector only for power charging. Powered by a 500mAh Li-Polymer rechargeable battery, the phone also includes torch functionality and a 5 way navigation key.

Backed by a one year handset replacement warranty, the VF 150 is priced at Rs 799 including VAT. Its price could vary across a few states depending on the tax structure.
