Here is yet another rugged phone, Sprint launches the Motorola i580 phone that can withstand harsh weather conditions. This Sprint handset poses a clamshell design with striking yellow color and offers a new option to the Nextel Direct Connect customers.

Measuring 3.8-inch x 2.2-inch x 1.1-inch and 5.1 ounces, it features a 1.9-inch 262k color internal display, white STN and 96 x 32 pixels external display.

The phone is compliant with Military Standard 810 F, suitable for extreme environments like hot/cold climates, dust and drops. The i580 comes with a rubber casing, interior linings and its antenna, speakerphone, keys, battery door and accessory connections are sealed, making it waterproof.

It also offers iDEN 800/900 MHz for Nextel Direct Connect, interconnect and data. Direct Connect enables instant, one-to-one push-to-talk communication across the nation with any other Nextel Direct Connect subscriber. It also allows Group Connect, International Direct ConnectSM, Direct TalkSM, Direct Talk, Direct SendSM and NextMail.

Some of its features are rugged construction, rain resistant, expandable memory, 1.3 MP camera with video capabilities, Multimedia Messaging Service, GPS Navigation, Bluetooth and comes with pre-loaded applications like TeleNav, Accuweather, Photoshare, IKTV and Mobile Email Enhanced.

The Sprint Motorola i580 will be available for about $US 119.99 (approx Rs. 6,021) with two years of agreement.
