BlackBerry Onyx Smartphone drifts into limelight

BlackBerry Onyx Smartphone

News in the rumor zone states that a sleeker BlackBerry is soon to reach out to consumers. RIM, probably, wants to lure BlackBerry fans with a much more slimmer and stylish design, leaving behind the standard format of the brand.

Engadget has apparently got hold of the latest BlackBerry smartphone, which might be called the Onyx. The so-called leaked image of the device suggests that it could be ‘a slightly sexier, smaller version of the Bold’.

In words of grapevine, the whispered BlackBerry smartphone is intended to expand the AT&T catalog. However, the rumor also reveals that the UMA-enabled version of the phone will get added to T-Mobile’s list with the codename of the Driftwood.

Apparently, the Driftwood or Onyx supports 3G network and is said to be a GSM-capable handset. Feature-wise, the rather small and chic device might incorporate 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, an integrated GPS, Wi-Fi, an optical trackpad and 480 x 360 screen as well as a full QWERTY keyboard.

Although there is no confirmation from RIM’s side, the BlackBerry Onyx or Driftwood smartphone is anticipated to reach the US by September 2009 for around $199 (approx. Rs. 9,820) with a 2-year contract.
