Samsung Omnia HD and Omnia Pro hits the Indian market

Samsung has strengthened its hold over the Indian market with the launch of the Samsung Omnia HD and the Omnia Pro. These handsets further extend the Omnia range that was introduced in India last year. Both the Omnia HD and the Omnia Pro are touchscreen devices with AMOLED screens.

The Omnia HD claims to be the first phone to offer a 9.4 cm Auto-Rotating screen and 720p video recording. The screen of the Omnia HD features 16: 9 aspect ratio with 16M color. The features of the Omnia HD include 1Ghz processor, Symbian platform, dual stereo speaker and stunning design with sleek finish. The handset also supports motion-enabled features including 3D games. The Samsung Mobile Widget creates a personalized interface that allows easy and hassle-free access to the web. The phone is also capable of multitasking.

Announcing the launch, stated Sunil Dutt, Country Head – Mobile Business, Samsung India said, “Samsung Omnia HD exemplifies our Vision of providing premium phones for consumers who desire functionality, style, usability and entertainment in one innovative device. Samsung Omnia series keeps the consumers at the forefront of work and play, staying connected anytime, anywhere.”

The dedicated 8 megapixel camera allows users to capture crisp and clear images. These images can also be shared via the Internet. The Omnia HD connects to the Internet via HSUPA 5.76Mbps and HSDPA 7.2Mbps. It also incorporates a GPS and a compass. The phone features 16GB internal memory and supports memory card of 32GB.

The Samsung Omnia Pro is a messaging device that features a full QWERTY keypad and support for corporate push email. Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, the Pro claims to be a complete substitute for the PC. It supports applications like PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and Word. The phone also allows users to download additional programs.

“Our full touch screen handset range is garnering a strong consumer acceptance based on the large full touch screen display, stylish form factor as well as the precision and ease with which the touch applications work on the phones” states Dutt.

The Omnia Pro supports varying social networking sites like Facebook along with instant messaging sites like MSN, Google Talk and Yahoo. The other features of the Pro include 3-megapixel camera, FM radio with RDS and Wi-Fi.

Both the Samsung Omnia HD and the Omnia Pro are now available in India. The Omnia HD is priced at Rs. 33,990 while the Omnia Pro will cost Rs. 16,500.
