Joining the ones screaming ‘Go Green’ is the new Sprint Samsung Reclaim. This Samsung handset is built of eco-friendly bio-plastic materials.

Sprint is doing its bit by giving away $2 from a Samsung Reclaim purchase to help The Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program which supports land conservation across the United States and protects some of the world’s most beautiful and important natural habitats.

The Samsung handset features One Click user interface that offers quick access to social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube. The phone is equipped with a 2 megapixel camera with 3x digital zoom and camcorder. It comes with a QWERTY keyboard that makes texting, messaging and mailing easier. The slider is available in earth green and ocean blue colors. The mobile phone supports expandable memory storage up to 32GB and incorporates advanced stereo Bluetooth 2.0.

“Sprint is widely recognized as a leader among telecommunications companies in environmentally-responsible initiatives, and today we are proud to announce an even stronger commitment to sustainability with new eco-friendly products and programs. Samsung Reclaim enables customers to go green while getting the latest in wireless technology. When customers walk into a Sprint retail store, they will be greeted by the information they need to make earth-friendly wireless choices, coupled with Ready Now to learn about the rich functionality of this device,” mentioned Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO.

The Samsung Reclaim also offers some ‘green’ applications like Green Guides, Green Glossary and Five Simple Steps from Discovery channel.

“Samsung Reclaim is more than just an eco-friendly device, it’s also a powerful and stylish phone that’s easy-to-use. When you combine the Reclaim’s impressive feature set with its bio-plastic hardware and eco-friendly packaging, you’re using a phone that is good for you and the environment,” quoted Omar Khan, senior vice president of Strategy and Product Management for Samsung Mobile.

About 40 percent of the handset’s outer casing is made up of corn. It does not include harmful elements such as brominated flame retardants and PVC. Even the outer packaging and the phone tray are made from 70 percent recycled materials. Further, the images and text on the box as well as the phone warranty information are printed with soy-based ink. The charger is backed by Energy Star and meets the highest energy efficiency standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.

The QWERTY handset will be available on August 16 at all Sprint retail channels like Best Buy, Radio Shack, Web and telesales for just $49.99 with a two-year service agreement after a $30 instant rebate and a $50 mail-in rebate. This green phone will be available at Wal-Mart from next month.
