M-Education Service introduced by Tata Indicom for Indian Rural Communities
Tata TeleServices, SNDT Women’s University, ATOM Tech, HP Labs, IPTL and ADC Krone have signed an agreement to present a new way of education for rural communities in India. Called the M-Education, this mobile education service has been developed to reach the masses for remote teaching and learning.
It is the best vehicle for distance learning in rural communities and physically challenged masses. Delivering contemporary content, it ensures access to accredited educational content and mock tests, eliminating the worry of geographies and physical constraints.
SNDT University has developed and managed the content, while the Atom Technologies offers intermediary interfaces. The service distribution and dissemination system has been taken care of by IPTL (through Pay Phones’ Welfare Association and 500,000 constituent members).
Maharashtra Governer, S M Krishna stated, “I am delighted and privileged to be a part of this great moment to examine a new paradigm in education. We are at a very interesting time where the digital revolution has suddenly and silently arrived with its many opportunities. This is a novel idea to create the application and undertaking it to propagate it across the country.”
Now, this M-Education service will be available in far flung and remote areas of the country. This enables bridging the physical distances with CDMA technology.
C N Nagakumar, CHRO, Tata Teleservices, explained, “We embarked upon the journey couple of months ago for the larger education and population. We at Tata Teleservices develop this service with SNDT University as our chosen partners because it caters to the education of women only as over hundred thousand women students from different streams getting educated. So the twin objectives we could achieve with this service that proclaims a paradigm shift from the aper format to mobile format and impact both women and education.”
Available in Hindi and English languages, the M-Education service will be available in other regional languages soon. However, I was wondering whether this initiative will be cost-effective as it is targeted at rural communities.
