We all want a combination of many technologies into one device, don’t we!

Readius Phone with e-Reader capability

A Dutch company called Polymer Vision, which spun out from Philips, has developed its latest mobile phone, called the Readius. This unique handset has been designed by combining two gadget interfaces into one. The company amalgamates mobile phone features along with an e-book reader functionality into Readius.

The size of two business cards, this handset comes equipped with a screen that can be folded up when not in use and folded out when users want to read news, blogs and even check emails. It can easily slide into one’s pocket. Wow! Now, that’s called brainy work!

Key features of the Readius Handset include:

  • 5-inches display
  • 3G connectivity
  • An e-Reader capability
  • Weighs 115 grams
  • USB 2.0 connectivity
  • Bluetooth
  • Micro SD slot
  • 30 hours reading time off a single charge
  • This novel device sports an electronic paper screen that has the ability to show black-and-white text and images, which are quite similar to the ones that are printed on paper.

Furthermore, you can also connect to the Internet with the 3G network that offers high data speeds. You can even set up your e-mail accounts, news sources, podcasts, audio books and blog feeds at home on the computer. Later you can transfer the data to the device.

“I see these devices with 50 buttons on them. We have eight,” Karl McGoldrick, chief executive of Polymer Vision said, adding that the company plans to add a keypad to future models.

Polymer Vision has said that around two years back, they had vowed audiences with the prototype of its Readius, which is now in production. The device is expected to be available in the market in mid-2008.
