Apple iPhone 3G Finally Arrives in India by Bharti Airtel

It’s here! Finally the phone for which we all have been waiting so far has arrived. Bharti Airtel announced the availability of the highly-anticipated and much-hyped mobile phone, the Apple iPhone 3G, across India at the stroke of midnight.
At an event held in Mumbai, K. Srinivas, Executive Director, Bharti Airtel; and Manu Talwar, CEO-Maharashtra and Goa, Bharti Airtel were present along with one of the first buyers of iPhone 3G – Raj Kumar Kanojia. Raj was given the opportunity to cut the ribbon for the first glance of the sizzling iPhone 3G.
The third generation iPhone flaunts high storage capacities, which are 8 GB and 16 GB memory, and 3G capability. However, the 3G service is not available in India. So, the mobile service providers will have to wait to provide faster internet services to their iPhone customers. Apparently, the absence of 3G service could stop some customers from purchasing the iPhone 3G in India.

On asking about the same, K. Srinivas, Executive Director, Bharti Airtel, stated that the network operator will commence the offering of 3G service to users as and when the authorization is granted by the Indian Government.
Apart from 3G service, the phone also lacks forwarding and video recording functionalities.
However, users can surf the internet on their iPhones using the 2G internet connection available from Bharti Airtel. In addition, other features of the phone include 3.5-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS capabilities and iPhone 2.0 software supporting Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. Bharti Airtel will also give access to Aritel Live application to its Apple iPhone users.
The iPhone 3G in India is priced at Rs. 31,000 (8 GB) and Rs. 36,100 (16 GB).
