Indian Rural People to get Alert of Availability and Supply of Food through SMS
Seems rural Indians are becoming tech savvies. The Chhattisgarh government is planning to offer information such as availability and supply of food to beneficiaries of the subsidized public distribution system (PDS) via SMS. That means people can get the information regarding availability of food in their hands.
Through public distribution system, government will offer grocery at extremely low prices. For example 35 kilos of rice in a month will be provided to each family at the rate of only Rs 3 per kg.
Talking about the innovative idea of information via SMS Alok Shukla, secretary of food and civil supplies said, “With SMS facility to PDS beneficiaries coming into place from this month, Chhattisgarh will become the first state of the country to have such high-tech system.”
For getting information regarding the availability and supply of food beneficiaries of FSS scheme (Food Security Scheme) farmers will have to register details of their mobile phones at the website of the food and civil supplies department. Also they will need to record details of nearest PDS shop.
The SMS service is expected to begin from January 26, 2008, which is celebrated as Republic Day in India.
