NTT Communications logo Japan-based NTT Communications is trying to add a new service to mobile phones to produce aroma while using the device. Called the Mobile Fragrance Communication service, it allows users to download audiovisual content, which triggers with specific fragrances that are emitted by a dedicated device.

Consumers can utilize the ‘i-mode’ mobile communication to download Fragrance Playlists, or files of recipes for specific fragrances together with visual (GIF animation) and audio (MIDI) content.

To get the aroma, you need to use the phone to download audio and video content and keep the infrared on. As soon as the download begins, the phone sends a signal out for the infrared sensor on the aroma pot, the device that spreads fragrance through is loaded with a cartridge of essences or bass fragrances.

This service is still in the stage of testing. However, what is the main purpose of this Mobile Fragrance Communication service? Is it useful for mobile phone users when they download A/V contents? These questions remain a mystery as of now.
