Passengers can Now Use Mobile Phone in Aircrafts, thanks to Ofcom
Now you no longer will have to listen to the command “Please Switch Off Your Mobile Phones” while traveling in European planes. You need to express your gratitude to Ofcom, the UK communications regulatory for it who has finally approved this intuitive service where travelers can use mobile phones on commercial flights across the continent.
Passengers who have boarded the flight are allowed to make use of their mobile phones after the plane reaches an altitude of 3000m or more. Besides, aircrafts have to be equipped with small mobile phone base stations called pico cells, which make sure of convenient usage of mobile phone service during flight hours.
“The safety of passengers is paramount and mobile systems on aircraft will only be installed when they have secured approval by EASA and the CAA in the UK. If such approval has been secured, it will be a matter for individual airlines to judge whether there is consumer demand for these services,” commented Ofcom in a statement.
For security reasons, the passengers are expected to switch off their mobile phones along with the device fitted into the aircraft, while landing and take off.
