UTStarcom develops CDM8630 Mobile Phone for Older Adults

UTStarcom CDM8630 handset UTStarcom has announced the availability of the CDM8630 mobile device that carries a lot of practical features, which would be beneficial for mature consumers. UTStarcom Personal Communications is a division of UTStarcom, Inc, a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services.

To make mobile communications simple and ease, the handset from UTStarcom features ten one-touch speed dialing entries and a special “In Case of Emergency” directory of emergency contacts along with a one-touch 911 button. It also crams two-inch 262 Color TFT (176 x 220) main display screen, one-inch monochrome STN (96 x 96) external display that alerts incoming calls, digital clock, battery life and signal strength.

“The CDM8630 was specifically developed with senior-aged consumers in mind, meeting their needs for a reliable mobile phone that’s easy to use,” said Philip Christopher, President of UTStarcom Personal Communications. “This cell phone brings mobile communications and peace of mind to older consumers and their families.”

The dual-band (800/1900 MHz CDMA) UTStarcom CDM8630 supports e911, features a built-in speakerphone and is equipped with advanced voice activated-dialing to easily communicate with friends and family hands-free. In addition, users can text messages faster and more easily with the large keypad and fonts as well as T9 predictive text capability.

The CDM8630 sports enhanced phone book (up to 500 entries), vibrating alert mode, TTY/TTD capable and works on Lithium Ion 920 mAh battery that offers up to 221 minutes of talk-time, and 229 hours on stand-by.

Earned the Good Housekeeping Seal, the UTStarcom CDM8630 mobile phone is currently available through Verizon Wireless and is being exhibited at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment at the UTStarcom Personal Communications. The handset for older adults will be distributed to various CDMA carriers in North America.
