Tata phone with Opera Mini India’s fastest-growing telecom provider, Tata Teleservices and Opera Software has announced that the upcoming BREW-enables handsets will get access to Opera Mini. This revolutionary browser is expected to be available first on the Huawei C2900i, a mass market BREW-enabled handset.

With the Opera Mini, Opera Software marks a vibrant entry into the Indian market. Tata Teleservices also provides an access to Internet in local languages such as Hindi.

The world’s popular mobile web browser allows mobile owners to access the entire web and surf their favorite websites, mobile blogging and social networking. The Opera mini is also compatible with local language websites including BBC Hindi, Dainik Bhaskar and many more. It also bundles bookmarks, secure access to e-mail and online banking to offer Web content to everyday mobile phones.

The Indian telecom industry watchdog, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) remarked that the number of Indian customers who connects the Internet through Mobile phones has more than doubled in just about a year – to 38 million from 16 million.

“We are bringing the world’s best mobile Web browsing experience to India and are the first operator to enable this experience for Indian consumers. Mobile Web on affordable mobile devices will open up the power of the Internet to a huge base of consumers, in a language of their choice. Tata Indicom’s superior CDMA capabilities, coupled with Opera Mini’s unique capabilities, will bring a delightful browsing experience to our customers,” said Pankaj Sethi, President, VAS & Enterprise Marketing, Tata Teleservices Ltd.

A remote proxy server enables the Opera Mini to pre-process web pages before sending them to mobile phones. Moreover, web content is condensed to decrease the size of data transfers that delivers a faster browsing experience.

“India continues to be an important market for Opera and we are excited to partner with Tata Teleservices to offer the full power of the Internet to mobile users in India. Opera’s focus on innovation is what differentiates the company in the market today. The new Opera Mini on BREW solution clearly demonstrates our vision and commitment to providing an outstanding Web browsing experience on mobile phones to customers in India,” commented Jon von Tetzchner, Chief Executive Officer, Opera Software.

Opera’s Zoom functionality helps the mobile owners to drive into the page offering dynamic navigation of the page content. The Small Screen Rendering (SSR) has the ability to reformat the Web page to fit inside the screen width, automatically eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling. It also provides a new ‘Desktop mode’ that enables users a wider view of the pages.

“Opera Mini gives me the power of contextual search, instantaneously. The best part is that Opera Mini keeps my data rates low and gives me the desktop browser feel. It’s so simple and so fast that it really is the best Internet experience… and I am addicted to it!” mentioned Kiran Menon, an avid Opera Mini user from Bangalore, India.

Research studies conducted by Gartner explained that India’s mobile phone market is expected to reach more than 18 per cent in the next five years.

Opera Mini has been developed for speed, ensuring the ultimate Web browsing experience.
