Sending Excessive Text Messages could Lead You to Tenosynovitis
Recently we reported about the Ringxiety disease that occurs due to excessive use of mobile phone use. Now one more syndrome called texting tenosynovitis, simply known as text-messenger’s thumb has been found.
Fleur de Vere Beavis, a student based in New Zealand has been diagnosed with tenosynovitis. The 20 year old girl has inflamed tendons besides her thumb and side of the wrist and the surrounding tissues are filled with fluid.
It is said that text-messenger’s thumb is caused due to excessive text messaging. The Kiwi student sends up to 100 text messages a day on her mobile phone.
Two more cases of text-messenger’s thumb have been found in Singapore and Australia, Emma Storr and Mark Stringer, authors of the New Zealand Medical Journal stated.
The authors of the journal report say that the increasing popularity of text messages may cause more and more cases of tenosynovitis than thought earlier.
