Nokia offers Assisted GPS Service to Locate Places Faster

Nokia N95 Nokia has introduced Assisted GPS (A-GPS) services for its built-in GPS handsets. This enables the user to locate the current locations quickly and find the required location faster.

Nokia planned to equip all its upcoming mobile phones with this service, provided they have a built-in GPS. The Nokia 6110 Navigator phone was the first device to offer this service. Now, the company is all set to release the same in Nokia N95 multimedia computer.

A-GPS is capable of reducing the time a connected mobile device with integrated GPS needs to find its current position. This is known as time to first fix (TTFF) for most geographical locations worldwide. It assures an increased and improved usability for all Nokia location-based experiences.

“By decreasing the time wasted while you wait for a first fix, we are increasing the enjoyment that Nokia Maps provides. Consumers now have the comfort of quick fix times which create a better navigation experience when using Nokia Maps,” said Ralph Eric Kunz, vice-president, multimedia experiences, Nokia.
The service works in tandem with a technical framework. Third parties like service providers are allowed to offer their own regional A-GPS services, which makes fix times even quicker in certain areas so that subscribers can profit.

Nokia Software Updater, a free service has been given to the Nokia N95 users, which enables them to update the firmware on the device to the latest version. Available in almost 40 languages, Nokia Software Updater was introduced last year and till now it has been used over two million times to update Nokia devices.
