Californian Governments Bans Teenagers from Using Mobile Phones while Driving
Recently we had reported about the banning of the mobile phones in schools by Karnataka government. More or less the same action has been taken by California too. Not from educational institutes but the American state has barred teenagers from driving while talking on their mobile phones.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a bill which will ban teen drivers from using electronic devices such as mobile phones, pagers and laptops while driving.
“The simple fact is that teenage drivers are more easily distracted. They are young, inexperienced and have a slower reaction time. We want to eliminate any extra distractions so they can focus on paying attention to the road and being good drivers,” Schwarzenegger.
According to the California Highway Patrol, use of mobile phone is the main cause of distracted-driver accidents in California. Even the study undertaken by Ford Motor Company revealed that teen age drivers get four times more distracted than adult drivers by mobile phone use.
Nearly 6,000 teenage drivers or passengers die every year in the state of California due to the distraction while driving.
By passing such a law, the Californian government has surely made teenagers journey safer and also ensured the safety of the pedestrians.
