Apple iPhone has always been in news for some or the other reason. Before the release the company came up with a publicity stunt. When it launched, the sales figures made the top news. After a month’s time, the news of the price cut rolled out on the websites. Later, the suing cases against Apple were more on the top of the news. Winning the the Invention of the year award was also ranking the news parameter. Now, when the company is all set to release the iPhone in other parts of the world, an issue of unlocked and locked version of iPhone gets the importance.

Recently, Apple faced difficulties in terms of unlocked iPhones. Many network carriers were unhappy with the company for restricting the phone into one specific network. This time, Apple has threatened Singaporean retailers for selling unlocked iPhone. The company mentioned that they would seek $1000 per hacked iPhone sold.

In response, Singapore shops have pulled the modified devices and also faced potential fines. Currently, unlocked phones are no longer available.

Apple iPhone, which is scheduled to release in Asia in 2008, was sold through online retailers.

At present, only France’s Orange, the only European carrier, is allowed to offer unlocked iPhone, but after six months from purchase. Germany’s T-Mobile can only provide unlocked iPhones after a two-year contract. Whereas, O2 offers the unlocked version of the iPod-functionality phone in UK.

Thus, consumers need to think thousand times before taking any step in regards to unlocking the iPhone illegally or spending double the amount to get the unlocked handset and later face some or the other difficulties.
