McAfee Joins Hands with LiMo Foundation
As a step towards promotion of Open Source in Mobile Computing arena, McAfee Inc announced today that it has become a core member of the Limo Foundation, an independent entity that promotes the cause.
The main objective of the Foundation is to influence Linux platform for mobile devices and further, to create an open, transparent, scalable network across application and middleware developer firms. It also encourages the creation of superior consumer experiences.
As an established security expert, McAfee will work towards enhancing the end-user experience for the first worldwide Linux-based software platform for mobile computing and devices. According to the security services giant, industry participation of security vendors will be a significant step for mobile devices as new and not entirely established standards enter the ever-expanding mobile devices market.
Via this tie up, McAfee intends to work in close association with other Foundation members. Also, with its knowledge of mobile system threats and its history of working with mobile carriers, the firm tends to ensure that end-users of Linux based mobile devices have a secure user experience.
In this context, Kiyohito Nagata, senior vice president at NTT DoCoMo and chairperson of the LiMo Foundation said, “LiMo Foundation is delighted to have McAfee as a core member. He further added, “McAfee will provide tremendous value through its extensive experience in protecting mobile devices and help create a safe world-class mobile Linux platform.”
McAfee’s Mobile Security Platform has been used in over 60 million devices worldwide. Going by this figure, it is not difficult to believe that as of now, and probably for some time to come, the firm is going to be the only security services vendor, with extensive experience in the incorporation of mobile security in mobile devices.
“McAfee is excited to have the opportunity to work with the members of the LiMo Foundation to bring Linux into the mobile realm,” said Victor Kouznetsov, senior vice president of Mobile Security at McAfee. “Linux is a proven platform which is set to expand to wireless networks, mobile services and the delivery of multimedia content. McAfee will work with the members of the LiMo Foundation to ensure a safe mobile user experience to this fast-growing sector of the market.”
McAfee’s Security Risk Management approach will be incorporated in its synchronized efforts with the LiMo Foundation. The approach intends to enable service providers to mitigate security risks to their business and protect their customers. It will also help control any damage caused to the brand due to chances of any malicious attack.
