Palm Withdraws Linux-based Foleo Laptop like Device
Palm’s chief executive Ed Colligan has announced that the company has canceled the launch of their recently showcased Foleo mobile companion product.
Market analysts have criticized the Foleo, designed to act as a companion device for Palm’s Treo range of smartphones, for lacking features which would have made it a must buy and predicted that Palm should delay the release of Foleo.
Colligan admitted in a blog post, “Our own evaluation and early market feedback were telling us that we still have a number of improvements to make Foleo a world-class product, and we can not afford to make those improvements on a platform that is not central to our core focus.”
The company would now take a charge of less than $10 million on this cancellation of the product.
Palm had introduced the Foleo at the D: All Things Digital conference in May. Now, Palm and Hawkins, are working on Foleo II. Palm might launch an updated version of the concept in the future.
