Suppose I have two CDMA connections: TATAINDICOM & RIM. When I am calling someone on TATA can I receive a call on my RIM connection at the same time ?

1. Duo has touch screen.
2. It supports stylus usage.
3. It supports installation of 3rd party softwares.
4. No camera cannot be removed/ its part of the basic phone.
U cannot get a good pda plus touch screen with camera for 11,999.
Tata has always been promoting the usage of new and cutting edge handsets(also check plug to surf).
CDMA is proven better technology.
a.superior connectivity
b.better data rates
c.value added services
I am a tata user for last 2 years. The internet experience and the amazin connectivity, makes me love the company and the technology.
My friends get disconnected when in car/elevator/inside malls. I get seamless connectivity. -

This phone sucks, it has no keypad. this site mentions it as a slider phone, but it is not. i went with expectations to the tata showroom to pick it up and they told me it is not a slider, it is only a bloody touch screen phone.

Hi,Guys
I am user of Reliance Comm (RC/RIM)For 4 Long years from inception, I am looking from them such device , I am surpised to see a lauch from Tata where they are not planning to have a GSM n/w planned like RC/RIM ,still they have done a good job in launching this phone ahead in India. Although I am not Tata User , I like to migrate to Tata Now, as I liked this HandSet the most. Pricing is right, May become compitate later when RC comes-in.
Also planning to retain the RC no for an year. by the advantage of this handset.
I want to know from you guys, Can I put the RC's SIM(Right Now introduce with the Low cost Classic device) to this phone and use both Tata and Reliance of them.
Later I plan to discard any one of them based on the traiff and signal quality and use a GSM Network(May be Vodaphone , if it is giving value added service like real time stock trading )
regards

dear friends ,
tata is the pride of india .
it is 100 times better then reliance .
i had 2 reliance cells phones and one landline .
the company cheated me by reducing my talk time of rs 1000/- to rs 0 .
the slogan of the reliance comany which says '' PAPA KA SAPNA SACH HUVA '' is indeed correct .
the ambani brothers have cheated many people like me and have made their father's dream come true .
the only hicth which i feel is that the tata indicom has less variety of cell phones .
but overall , their honesty & their service is excellent . -

I have a Nokia CDMA Phone with TATA service which I bought at 10,500 or so.
Clarity and conversation is quite uncomplainable. But for a service which needs a phone to be bundled with, TATA doesnt put much onus on the quality of the phones.
My phone is hardly 1 year old and the phone has problems with speaker and loudspeaker. This bundles with almost zero support from Nokia for CDMA sucks. Nokia atleast treats CDMA as a step child.
NOKIAs standard line - 'We need to send your phone to Chennai for servicing. It will come back in 15 days. It may or may not be repaired after 15days. Thank you.'
This for a CDMA customer is a killer! We cant even borrow a handy mobile for those 15 days.
What surprises me also Tata's carelessness. It doesn't take Nokia to task on behalf of its customers!
Well.... I wondering whether I need to shift back to a GSM phone. -

No, it does not come with a data cable. Even I am searching where to buy one in Delhi. You will also have to upgrade the memory if you want to store music, etc. -

D-88 is a real good phone. I would have taken it but for the fact that there's no java in it (can't install the java games found on the net) . This phone is otherwise a good buy for dual CDMA/GSM users.

I m using Samsung Duo phone, would anyone plz tell me where I can buy data cable & memory card for Samsung Duo in East delhi?
Is 2 GB memory card suitable for Samsung Duo?
Brief summary about the Set:
SAMSUNG Duo is better phone than Nokia N 72 (sound is bad) & Moto Rokr (U cannot set ur own ringtones). Samsung has good sound and display then other phones. The inbuild features like calender (with holidays), Mobil Prayer, paint, Panchang (Tell good time for start of an important work) are really good features. I will give 9 out of 10 point to Samsung Duo. -

@Sameer Sharma: The phone only supports 1GB memory. This is what manual says. I also stay in East Delhi (PPganj), I got my memory card from Krishna Nagar HOTSPOT. You can try Laxmi Nagar also. I got Integral 512MB Micro SD card for Rs.600 with lifetime guarantee. The data cable is not available as yet. I got a card reader for Rs.250, can transfer everything to phone now.
Samsung service centre in PPganj said he will get it in a week. Lets see!!
@Dayal_ruby : Paaji, go ahead and purchase the headset. It is great, but NO FM, and it also does not have a keypad becoz its touchscreen. So, if you send a lot of SMS, it may be a concern for you. Else, it rocks :p
If you are buying to activate both SIMs at the same time, it cannot be done on this handset. -

I personally dont have any love lost for Tata Teleservices and as one of thier first customers with VSNL their services sucked ! ! !
Given Samsungs spat with Reliance - What I would really like to know is tht can this handset be unlocked from TATA - Indicom?
The Spice set is open and works on Reliance but lacks bluetooth.... -
Posted By: Madhu,Sep 29th, 2007 pm30 10.57pm
Well, i am back with my review as promised...
Hmmm, over all i would rate 6 out of 10.. My ratings are based on the following
Battery & signal strength -Good, No multitasking (features u get with nokia symbian phones), The worst feature of the phone is that the clock is always in 24 hr format, (no AM/PM format),First few days u can never love the phone as there is no key pad, but with time u can learn how to use the stylus..(its sick to when u dial up customer care of tata indicom or some bank, where they ask u enter your mobile nr..I am sure u will be frustrated to the core when u are doing it for the first time), but certainly once u are more used to stylus u will get used to it..So absence of key pad is not that big a deal.. but the phone might not make its way to lay man..The scribble pad feature is good( u can keep drawing some thing or scribble some thing with your stylus.. lot better than playing games).Ya. the phone comes with one board game which is not of my particular interest.
camera is not that very bad.. Mp3 player is good enough (for ppl who are not too music savy).. The internal memory is too low and virtually of no use. u will have to buy a external micro SD sooner or later.(if only it came free with the phone.... like nokias......).hourly chimes, panchang, hinglish, cricket alert, reminders, mobile prayers etc are certaily positive features of the phone and make it true "Indian mobile". The univ converter donot have a currency converter which is ceratainly a feature i am missing..The look and feel of the phone is good.. and i will not call the phone too bulky( this phone scores a lot here compared to nokia phones).Over all useablity of the phone is good and i would rate 3 out of 5.It will take its time for hard core nokia users like me, but this phone is a good choice if you are fond of flauting around your phone in public..I wish i had a data cable bundled with the package, yet another nokia thing which i am missing.
The worst feature of the phone is that in contacts u cannot add more than one number against a name. E.g if i have two phone number, I will have to store it as two different contact entries , with differnt names ( the phone neither allow u to create two contacts with same name, nor does it allow to store 2 or more numbers for a single contact).[Most stupid feature of this phone from my point of view]
The calander is good, it lists indian holidays, and has slightly more features .
than nokia calanders.(agains scores here).
The phone displays information message after every user action, which at times are annoying..
Whilst sending message.. u will have to struggle a bit to choose the contact prior to sending message, and u cannot set delivery report to on by default ,u will have to choose check it for every message u send.
Well... i have listed here all the slightly compramising features of the phone, and i have listed few struggles i have faced with this phone. But ceratinly of late i have started loving this phone. Its jus few inital days you will feel the stuggle but once u start using it. u will start enjoying its features..
I would recommend this mobile for ppl
1) who desperately want to manage 2 phone connections
2) who want to explore different mobiles, and love experiencing different features
3) who likes flauting mobiles in public
I will not recommend this mobile for guys who are
1) very much used to nokia phones
2) Who are not that very much tech savy and prefers mobile to be very very user friendly.
My over all rating of the phone is now 8 out of 10. (see my previous rating was 6 out of 10,when i being),but as i told i have started loving this phone now :) [thats what u can do , when u invest 12000 bucks :)]
I am happy with this mobile..Most of my friends also did like the features..
Guys .. i would recommend , using this mobile first and then buying..
Jus walk in to tata indicom center, ask for a demo, try using it your self..grab it..
Worth a buy.............. -

-
Posted By: Kapil,Oct 4th, 2007 am31 05.19am
@Madhu: You can store upto 5 numbers in a single name entry, provided you store it on phone memory. Just click on type of entry, home-mobile-fax-pager, etc. and add your sub-number.
Data cable still not available. The samsung pc suite would not configure on Bluetooth, but what the heck, who needs it!!! I have a 512MB SD card, and is more than sufficient, I guess.
Decent buy -

hi..
am using this set and found quite user friendly...such as:
1. It has HTML web2.0 version-there multimedia content can b viewd similar to PC.
2. the two connections can't be used together, means, you can't get a call on the other sim, while you are calling through the first.
3. Extra Advantage: call rates on CDMA network are usually cheaper than others whereas mobility and roaming features of GSM network is always better than CDMA. So , probably CDMA can be used for local outgoings whereas GSM may be used for outstation.
Thanks

hey all,
I agree with madhu that though the phone is quite irritating at the beginning, but once one gets used to it.....one wud love it.True.
@madhu..the delivery ack can be set one ....with the other setting of the messages...and from thereon, the second screen which cones while sending the essage (the screen just after typing the message) wud have all the previous settings....so no need to set the delivery ack time and again.
@Imteyaz...dude...one can view word, excel, pdf and ppt on this handet.
thanks,
Rahul Srigyan. -

@mani: In the music files, click on the folder option, which says phone memory. It will automatically open the memory card memory. And then u can click it again to get phone memory.
Also note that you cannot set a ringtone for SMS alerts. -

Nice inputs from everyone :)...however i have a question...as Kapil said.. "there is no place to put stylus inside. You have to either carry it along or tie it up to the phone."...this sounds really wierd...Every stylus oriented phone does have a slot for it....Well I'll have to give it a try.

hi guys...i am using this cell....
its awesome....
there are some features like the calender and panchaang is also good.
besides it also offers multi zoom with file viewer option.
but the only point is that its a touch screen and the stylus which i have got is just like a pen and just within 2 weeks i bought the cell the threads of the cap have gone...i have to be very cautious that the stylus does'nt get lost every time i use the cell ...
can anyone please tell me where can i get a new stylus from??....
and how much will it cost?? -
Posted By: Sreedharan,Jan 14th, 2008 am31 11.30am
Hello, Nikhil, you need not worry in the absence of a stylus. U might have seen stylus like stick used for writing in the magic slate meant for children or any other blunt stick would do

I am using TATAINDICOM for past 5yrs and I agree that my opinion has shifted from horrible to good, so far. Regarding the handset, I would like to inform, battery will be always an issue for any make of handset as this is the technology drawback and not the handset.
I have used Nokia 6275, 6255, 3105 and battery life was always a problem. Network signal strength is directly affects your battery life so whenever you make comment, pls mention if you are using within city limits or in roaming.
I wanted to try Samsung Duo, wanted your comments on
1) How often do u have to recharge the battery assuming a heavy usage?
2) Does connecting to internet drains the battery at higher rate?
3) Is sending sms,mms simpler compared to Nokia?
4) Is call forwarding free when using both sims?
5) Can u send attachments when using sending mails from handset? -

hi all,
i bought the samsung DUO just about an hour ago and i still did not even open the box as i am still sitting in my office. i just checked a demo piece in the showroom and felt it was solid enough to hold especially considering that i bought this phone as a gift for my girl friend. hope she really likes it and appereciates me for this kind gesture of mine. hmmmmmm. lets wait and see.
actually i did not want to open the seal before giving it her but since i am a real mobile phone geek i am going to open this and see how it works. will definetly post an entry very soon. most probably by monday.
by the way, i just bought my self LG Viewty 10 days back after selling SE K850i (amazing phone)and loving Viewty totally. it is a superb phone. perhaps the best in the market followed by my ex-SE K850i.
catch u people monday. -

hello all,
as promised, following is my review of samsung DUO.
as i have mentioned, i bought this phone for my girl friend. and please note that i did not buy this for it dual sim capability because i know that only one network can be accessed at a time. i just bought it because i felt that it was the best phone available in the tata indicom line-up. and boy... i was right.
it is without a shadow of a doubt a very good phone in deed.
-a solid finish
-a good screen resolution
-a good camera
-good music through speaker
-amazing music through head set and
-a wonderful touch interface which vibrates each time you touch a key.
all these make it a surprise for me and even more to my girlfriend. i felt i got much more than what i expected from DUO. as some users mentioned in this blog, there is no problem with the reception or the voice clarity. i did not find any such problems. its just fine. the bluetooth in fast as well. an average mp3 format song with a 4m24sec duration was transferd within 58sec to be exact. the stylus is very effective with its pointed end and helps to use DUO interface with ease. even otherwise, the touch screen is big enough to be accessed by fingure tip, with a little caution though. but, my girlfriend is able to do it with more ease as she has smaller fingures compared to me. some users wrote that it takes alot of time to get used to using this phone. i very strongly disagree to this. i felt that it is very simple to use. but then i felt, may be it is because i was using another touch interface phone, LG Viewty lately. but, my girl friend, who is not at all familier with gadgets and all was using this phone with relative ease as well. that makes me say that this is a very simple, easy to use phone. to add to the comfort level, there are 4 way navigation keys, cancel key, select key, and ofcourse call accept and reject keys provided so that you may not use the touch screen always. its good.
there are a couple of things on the other side of this as well,
-no FM
-no external memory provided along (i bought a 1gb card though....)
-transfered file gets stored in the internal memory directly, which is just enough to store only 1 song completely, and then you need to move it to external memory manually. so, you would have to transfer only one song at a time via bluetooth and then need to move each to the external memory.
-no flash or light for camera
guess the bad things end there.
guys and gals, all in all DUO is a good phone without a doubt. i bought it for rs.8,999 from tata indicom outlet in bangalore and it is worth every bit of it. there is no other phone in the market in this price range with touch interface and all. i do not regret my decision of buying DUO at all. and this decision has been reached after seeing how happy my girlfriend was with this phone. she authenticates my statement too. i bought a 1gb memory card for rs.700 and also a sexy leather pouch of case logic for rs.300 which looks like is tailor made for DUO. you wont even have to take the phone out of the pouch to use the touch screen. its really good. so, now it makes my DUO fully loaded. the music quality through speaker is decent. and through the head set is just too good. i was hearing the song, smack that on the head set and felt it just blew the lid off. sounds amazing.
i am not sure about the battery back-up yet. i charged the phone for 12 hours straight after un-packing it (which is mandatory for any phone to get the best battery life) and was using the phone the whole day yesterday including playing lot of music, used camera and more importantly transfered 127 mp3 songs via bluetooth and at the end of the day, the battery lost only one point. so, i guess the battery will atleast last for 3 days for an average user if not more.
one thing readers must keep in mind is that DUO may not be the best phone in the market or has the best tech-specs and all. but, for this price range for people who are looking for a "hat-ke" phone using which has to be fun, and for people using indicom services, DUO is certainly a very very good choice. the best thing in this phone is the scribble pad. my girl friend just loved this feature, you can go on and on just draqing something on it.
the bottom line - go for it. no regrets. -

HELLO !
FRIENDS I WANT TO KNOW THAT SUPPOSE I WANT TO SAVE A FILE WHOSE SIZE IS MORE THAN SET'S INTERNAL MEMORY, HOWEVER I HAVE 1GB CARD. WILL I BE ABLE TO DO IT?
DOES THIS SET HAVE MP3 RINGTONES? -
Posted By: venkat,Jan 9th, 2009 am31 04.30am
Samsung duo is the worst phone I have used.
First its phone book is a mere 500 + 250 each on the 2 sim cards.
The file viewer can take only one picture at a time. I am unable to use the file viewer with files in the external memory.
The camera is irritating. & Very Slow. By the time it starts to work your picture situation may no longer exist.
Try using the phone to access Tata Customer service. You cant press 1,for English, 2 for Hindi ,3 4 at all. You will have to put the sim card on somebody else's phone and call us customer service.
The PCsuit gives error in Windows. It is not windows logo passed.
If Samsung wants to keep its image (what ever is left) It should replace the software to solve all the above problems.
The phone book should be expanded like N72 (Nokia) where the number is limited only by the available memory.
May be all the customers who feel cheated my rethink about the brand value of Samsung.
The shape is fantastic.
Regards,
Venkat -

Hi All,
I am using this phone for the past one year, this phone has almost all the features you can think of .... blue tooth ... 1.3 mb camera ... file viewer .... mp3 ringtones ..... sms ... mms .... email .... however none of these work properly ... you cannot send an sms ... of more than 160 characters ... which I find WEIRD ... more over ... once an mp3 ringtone is set .... you will realise that ... you can only hear the vibration ..... which is once again .. irritating .... and then you cannot find a good service centre ... also ... when you are playing music on your mobile you cannot do anything else as it will not run in background and sound quality is so pathetic that on full volume only you can hear the music ... so if you want to flaunt a touch screen phone with lots of features you can go for it. But at the same time after some time you will find this phone irritating ... although as mentioned by Venkat that you cannot use number pad while on call you can do that ... there is an option for that on screen .... that is a phone icon which shows the number pad. -
