Roku XD player heads over to Best Buy

The Roku XD player’s accessibility was earlier limited to being offered only through the company’s online store for those interested in buying it. To extend its availability, Roku recently announced that the Roku XD player can now be purchased at Best Buy stores across the U.S and the retailer’s online portal.
The player comes equipped with 1080p HD video streaming support and features 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity. It is capable of efficiently streaming movies and TV shows from Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus and Crackle. Sport lovers can instantly screen live matches from NBA Game Time and NHL GameCenter Live, while music is provided via Pandora, MP3tunes, MOG and Rdio.
“Having sold over 1 million Roku players through online sales only up until now, we are incredibly excited to announce our entrance into brick and mortar retail with nationwide availability from the preeminent consumer electronics retailer,” commented Anthony Wood, founder and CEO, Roku. “Customers can now grab a Roku off the shelf at Best Buy, take it home and be up and running, enjoying their favorite TV show, movie, music or sports team in just a matter of minutes.”
The device integrates support for Facebook and Flickr for enabling users to seamlessly share photos and videos with family and friends. The company claims that since their launch back in May 2008, the Roku players have been offering a simple and reliable way to watch entertainment content for over 1 million consumers.
The Roku XD player retails for $79.99 (approx Rs. 3,564). Select Roku players are also available through Fry’s Electronics, BJ’s Wholesale Club and RadioShack.
